Dogs Playing
Living with three dogs is an enlightening and often humorous source of entertainment, bringing me immense joy, especially when they play. They are my family, and much of my life revolves around them, making them ideal subjects to paint. Although this is a very personal take on the animals that I love, I believe there is something universal in my perspective. A friend once reminded me that even though he does not have a dog, every time he sees one with its head hanging out a car window, it makes him smile. A good part of my everyday is like this.
This conversation started long ago, when dogs first lived with humans. We know their attributes by heart, their unwavering loyalty, bravery and strength, and their natural ability to love us without judgement. They are always in the moment, having no concern for the future, or the past. They also study us, never tiring of it, watching our body language, our energy, knowing us better than we know them, and perhaps even better than we know ourselves.
I have lived with dogs since I was a small child, which has thoroughly enriched my life. They remind me to laugh when I most need it, to embrace a light heart, and to live in each moment. They make me a better human being, and I cannot imagine life without them. Through these paintings, I am bringing to light the spirit of these animals, the pleasure in watching them sleep, play and interact with each other, and the intelligence of their teachings. This is life with dogs.
